First Impression: New Maybelline Products

With the Maybelline contest that's currently happening on their Facebook page (I created one look for it) I got a chance to try some new products that also hit the store in the past few weeks. I was expecting much from some of them because they were so praised, but the overall impression was not that good. I'm actually used to that Maybelline produces much better products, or at least in the past I was more impressed by them as I am now. Read further to see which products I liked and which disappointed me.

The Nudes palette
I've heard pretty bad reviews about this palette. The pigmentation was so criticised that I thought I won't be able to pull an intensive look on my eyes as I planned. But I was surprised because eyeshadows applied really nicely and intensive on my lids. But, of course, the pigmentation defers from shade to shade and not every shade is nicely pigmented. Metallic eyeshadows have better colour payoff than matte eyeshadows. This palette contains six metallic eyeshadows that are nicely buttery and six matte eyeshadows that are a bit chalky. They dust and fall out big time. On my lids, these lasted a whole day without creasing and fading away. My favourite eyeshadow from this palette is shade 4, which is a gorgeous golden-brown shade. It turned out that this palette isn't as bad as I expected, although on the other hand I'm a bigger fan of colours so it's a question how much will I use it in the future.

Super Stay 24h Fresh Look Longwear Foundation
In the glass bottle packaging with a pump you get a light to medium coverage foundation with a dewy finish, that's easy to apply and blend into the skin and it doesn't emphasize dry parts on the skin. It feels very comfortable and lightweight on my face. I got the shade 28 Soft Beige, which is a bit darker yellow toned shade, but I already got some tan on my face, so for the summer, this will be a good match for my skin tone. It evens out the skin really nicely, but since it has a light coverage it won't cover bigger imperfections on the skin. When I swatched it it oxidized a bit, but on my face it doesn't become orange and it really blends nicely into the skin. It doesn't really last 24h hours as they say, but mattified with a powder it lasted around 9 hours on my skin. This is just the kind of foundation I like for my dry skin - lightweight, dewy, has light to medium coverage, evens out the skin tone and does not emphasize dry parts on my face. I just hope there are some brighter shades available by us.

Master Precise Curvy eyeliner
This eyeliner in the shape of a marker seemed quite interesting since the beginning to me. It's quite original and nothing that I've seen before. Also, its applicator is not a usual thin tip, but a curved flat tip. I was wondering if I will be able to work with it, but I figured it out immediately how to use it to do a line. The shade of this eyeliner is a nice black matte shade, while its formula it's on a drier side. While I was able to do a thin line for a swatch, it was harder for me to do a thin line on my eyes, because this eyeliner isn't that precise. I mean, I'm a fan of a thick line, but I know not everyone is. Otherwise, this eyeliner lasts a whole day on lids without smudging and it's easy to remove. Although it's oval shaped it fits nicely into the hand, it's lightweight and it's easy to hold it in your hands during the application. I like this eyeliner, but L'Oreal Super liner Superstar is much better and is still my favourite pen eyeliner.

Push Up Drama mascara without the drama
Croatian and Serbian bloggers praised this mascara, and when I got it I expected a lot from it. Well, unfortunately, I have to say I was highly disappointed. I dare to say that this is one of the worse mascaras I ever tried. The plastic wand with small bristles is fine and I'm able to reach all eyelashes with it, but the formula of this mascara is just horrible. This mascara is just too wet and heavy and it takes ages for it to dry. Even though I curled my lashes before I applied it they felt down immediately as I applied the first coat of this mascara. I wiped it off before usage and applied thin coats, but it didn't help. Once it's applied it takes few minutes before it dries on lashes. When I first used it I immediately applied few more coats, but that meant that the mascara ended up all over my lids because it takes so long for it to dry. Next time I tried with one coat, then I waited for few minutes for it to dry and then I applied another coat. Anyway, it still applied clumpy and the lashes were stuck together, not to mention that it doesn't hold the curl in any case. It also doesn't provide much volume to my lashes. Unfortunately, I have to say that I don't find any positive thing about this mascara. I'll wait for some time to see if it'll dry more with time and work better, but for now, I can say that Maybelline did a bad job with this mascara.

Matte lipsticks that aren't matte
I was so excited because of this product. Matte lipsticks are my favourite, even though my lips tend to be dry occasionally, especially in winter. Some time ago I bought Berry Boost in DM. I tried it and it looked glossy on my lips. I thought maybe it's similar to Bourjois Velvet lipsticks, which apply glossy but dry matte after few minutes. Well, this Maybelline lipstick looked glossy even after an hour, but it became matte after around two hours when it wore off a bit. Then I received Rebel Red for the contest. The story was the same here, at the beginning the shade is glossy and it dries matte after an hour or so when it wears off a bit.
But the one thing I can believe is how different the formula of these two works. Rebel Red has a nice creamy velvety formula, while Berry Boost isn't so velvety and it's more wet and glossy (it's formula actually reminds me a bit of lip stain formula, but maybe it's just me). The colour payoff isn't bad, both are buildable, but what bugs me by Berry Boost is that on lips it looks completely different as in the packaging. While in the packaging it looks like a pretty darker berry shade, it looks completely pink on lips. For the swatch on lips (close-up photo) I applied it like I normally would wear it, I didn't build it up too much because I wanted to show you how different it looks on lips and in the packaging. These last around four to five hours on my lips, and while at the beginning they are very comfortable to wear, after some time when then wear off my lips tend to feel a bit dry.
Unfortunately, I'm one of those who's not impressed by these products. I'm not going to say that they are bad, but I  didn't get what I expected. If it says matte on the packaging I expect matte products, otherwise don't sell them as matte, Maybelline.

If I conclude - I expected I'll be more impressed by these new products. I do like foundation a lot, and I find palette and eyeliner okay, but the mascara and lipsticks disappointed me big time. They just aren't what I expected. With the exception of the lighter shade of a foundation, I probably wouldn't repurchase any of these products.

Have you tried new Maybelline products? What do you think about them? Thank you for reading!
